This week, we had a brilliant 2017 Ford Fiesta ST in the workshop — and this hot hatch was in for some serious work. The owner came in wanting improved handling, better reliability, and peace of mind with fuel delivery after some previous issues. Our team at Star Garage Mansfield took it on and gave it the full package.
These ST models are incredibly popular for a reason — punchy turbo engines, great balance, and a lot of fun to drive. But after a few years on the road, especially with spirited use, they can start to show signs of wear. That’s where upgrades and preventative repairs come into play.
What We Did
This car got a stacked list of upgrades and fixes:
- New low pressure fuel pump
- Low pressure fuel sensor
- Front and rear drop links
- Full polybush kit
- Coilover suspension installation
Let’s break that down.
Fuel Delivery Fixes
The customer had been experiencing hesitation under load, especially at lower RPMs. This is a known symptom of a failing low pressure fuel pump or faulty sensor. We diagnosed both and found irregular readings from the sensor and pump drop-off during demand.
We replaced both the low pressure pump and the sensor with reliable aftermarket units rated for performance use. This restored steady fuel delivery, improved throttle response, and ensured no risk of lean running under boost.
Drop Links Front & Rear
The drop links on the Fiesta ST often wear prematurely — especially if the car sees regular cornering force. These ones had visible play and were causing a knocking sound over uneven surfaces. We swapped them for uprated heavy-duty links to ensure long-term stability in the suspension system.
Full Polybush Kit
Polyurethane bushes replace the soft factory rubber ones, reducing flex and improving road feedback. They’re particularly noticeable on fast-road setups, where the chassis becomes more responsive and consistent. We installed a full kit, including control arms, trailing arms, and anti-roll bar bushes.
This upgrade transformed the way the car felt. Less movement in the suspension meant better control under braking, more confidence in corners, and reduced wear on other components.
Coilover Suspension Installed
The cherry on top was a full coilover suspension install. The customer wanted adjustable height and improved damping for a more tailored driving experience.
We fitted a well-known coilover setup designed specifically for the Mk7 Fiesta ST platform. Ride height was adjusted to give a sportier stance while keeping it practical for daily driving. Damping was set up based on the customer’s feedback after a test drive, balancing comfort and precision.
The result? Significantly improved handling, less body roll, and the ability to fine-tune the ride for different conditions or future track days.
Why It Matters
Lots of owners wait until parts fail to upgrade. But with the right approach, you can improve reliability and performance at the same time. That’s exactly what this Fiesta ST owner did.
Fuel issues fixed? Check. Suspension fully refreshed and upgraded? Check. Sharper handling with a performance edge? Absolutely.
At Star Garage Mansfield, we love working on performance cars like this. Whether it’s preventative maintenance, performance mods, or both — we’ve got the tools, the parts, and the experience to do it right.
If your car isn’t feeling as sharp as it used to — or if you’ve got an upgrade in mind — we’d love to help.
